Daniel Berger made a strong push to repeat as this week’s Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week, but this week’s winner goes to one of the two former Florida State players currently on NBA rosters.

Toney Douglas is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of February 9th through the 15th after being signed to a pair of 10-day contracts by the New Orleans Pelicans. After spending time with the Miami Heat last season, Douglas had been out of the league to open the 2014-15 season.

In two games this week for the Pelicans, Douglas averaged 11 points, 4.5 assists, 3 rebounds, a block and a steal. Douglas shot 7-for-16 from the field over the two games and posted a 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

After recording 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in a 100-96 loss to the Utah Jazz on Monday, Douglas was outstanding in Wednesday’s 106-93 defeat in Indiana against the Pacers. On 5-for-9 shooting, Douglas finished with 14 points and 7 assists in 25 minutes.

In six NBA seasons, Douglas has been a journeyman, playing with his now sixth different time. For a New Orleans club that needs a point guard and sits just a game and a half out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, Douglas is showing that he still has the ability to contribute on the NBA level.
