The Titans finally have a franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota, now it’s time to protect him.
This should be the mindset for Tennessee heading into the NFL Draft in April. Despite receiving phone calls for the top pick, the Titans need to protect their franchise, and not just adding weapons at running back and wide receiver, but in particular, on the offensive line.
Ole Miss’ offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil seems to be the consensus top pick, and drafting him would allow the Titans to move former first round pick, Taylor Lewan to the right side.
We’ve seen what teams like the 49ers and Cowboys have done in recent years- investing heavily in the early rounds on the offensive line and seeing it paying off. Tennessee has to do the same with Mariota.
In his rookie season, the former Oregon Duck finished with 2,818 yards passing, 19 touchdown passes, and an overall QB rating of 91.5, to go along with a pair of rushing touchdowns in 12 games played.
If the Titans want to turn their franchise around, it starts with protecting their QB, and it should key their first pick in the NFL Draft in April.
