What everyone is talking about
The Winter Classic. Really, that’s about it. ESPN, NBC (Yahoo links to the NBC feed), Fox, Sports Illustrated, Sportsnet, TSN, NHL.com
Scoreboard
New York Islanders 5, Winnipeg 2 – Andrew Ladd had 2 goals, but the Jets did nothing else.
Tampa Bay 5, Buffalo 1 – The Sabres year ended the same way as it had gone – badly.
New York Rangers 5, Florida 2 – The Panthers resolution is to play only 60 minutes of hockey a night.
Columbus 3, Minnesota 1 – The Wild have been a miserable disaster this year, likely because they were upset about not getting the Winter Classic, but also because they didn’t get their traditional New Years Eve home game.
Toronto 4, Buffalo 3 (SO) – Tukka Rask only had 18 saves. There is no way Toronto should have won this. ASAS
Pittsburgh 2, Carolina 1 – Hey, the Hurricanes lost.
Detroit 3, New Jersey 1 – Darren Helm scored 2 goals. It turns out 2014 wasn’t done being incredible.
Dallas 6, Arizona 0 -Look at the Coyotes trying to hockey. Adorable.
San Jose 3, Anaheim 0 – Perhaps the Ducks were getting ready for eighties night and forgot their game.
Colorado 4, Philadelphia 3 (OT) – These teams spent a lot of time talking about how good they used to be.
Calgary 4, Edmonton 4 (OT) – The year ends with the Battle of Alberta. I’m just sad for Alberta.
Tweet of the Moment
A spectacular anthem is in the books, and the players have taken the ice. This is a thing that is happening. #WinterClassic
