This has been a pretty rough off-season so far for the Georgia Bulldogs. Trinton Sturdivant went down with an ACL injury, Washaun Ealey transferred and then Caleb King was declared ineligible, there are some questions about possible NCAA violations from when Jarvis Jones played for USC, Brent Benedict was released from his scholarship and then promptly signed with ACC power Virginia Tech, and just this week RB turned LB Richard Samuel turned back into a RB. It’s been a weird off-season. I’m not a huge recruiting guy but I do try to keep up with it a little bit. Friday was a big night for Georgia as it hosted “Dawg Night” in which over 100 recruits came in to Athens. Some were in to try and impress the coaches and earn a scholarship offer, others were top guys who the coaches wanted to convince to come play at Georgia and others were being brought in to evaluate. In 2010, Georgia received two commitments on Dawg Night from OL Nathan Theus and OL Zach DeBell. With that in mind there was some buzz that there could be some verbal commitments made on Friday night.
When all was said and done the Georgia Bulldogs finished with a huge recruiting haul of five verbal commitments on Friday night. They received one for the upcoming class of 2012, three for the class of 2013 and one for the class of 2014. It was a big night for the coaching staff and a big night for the fans who finally got some good news this summer. Check out the Georgia site Leather Helmet Blog to get a feel for how the fanbase felt about this night as they have over 600 comments in their “Dawg Night” post.
