Good to see Bruins “fans” are in midseason form already.
We jumped on Twitter after the Bruins went up 2-0. We saw tweets with statements like “look how good they look! Stanley Cup here we come!”
Then we jumped on again after the Bruins blew the lead and lost in the shootout and saw tweets like “wow they blew a lead to the Panthers! they’ll be lucky to win 20 games this year!”
There’s the door to the bandwagon. Feel free to jump off now. This was a preseason game. Relax.
After the jump, some fights, an NHL first for Seguin and a blown lead…..
The Recap
The first period ended in a scoreless tie as some fans jumped off the Tobin because the Bruins can’t score again this season! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Seriously. Relax. P.R.E.S.E.A.S.O.N.
What we liked from the first:
Mark Stuart is back to his nasty self. An injury plagued 2009-10 season did not allow Stuart to use his talents to their fullest. But the man is an intimidating force. He will cut you.
Kenndal McArdle decided he wanted to tangle with Stuart. He taunted Stuart a bit and Stuart happily obliged. McArdle seemed to immediately regret his decision as he kind of avoided Stuart until Stuart grabbed him, then he just wanted to cuddle. Unfortunately Stuart isn’t much of a cuddler and threw McArdle to the ground so he didn’t embarass himself further. That guy should be embarrassed.

Then the Panthers were at it again. Triston Grant wanted to prove they weren’t a bunch of kitties and started some crap with Horton during a faceoff. Threw a few slashes. But Horton said hey whatever, my job is to score you joke. So he called in the big guns. Milan Lucic skated over and explained to Grant that he didn’t appreciate the way he treated Horton.
And by explained, we mean pummeled Grant until the message was clear. Poor, poor Grant. You should have walked away.

What we liked about the second period:
Bruins new hired guns show why they’re here.
Sportshub callers temporarily got shut up as Tyler Seguin “finally” scored his first NHL goal off a fantastic feed from Chara. Seguin buries the pass, 1-0 Bruins.

We can’t find a video of this yet, but Horton decided he didn’t want Seguin to have all the glory and absolutely schooled the Florida D and Scott Clemmensen. Great dekes, great shot, great goal. Horton was also throwing the body around and going to the dirty areas with no problem. If he keeps playing like this, he’ll become a fast fan favorite in Boston. 2-0.
What we liked/didn’t like about the third period:
Poor defense. Slightly soft goaltending. Oh well. It happenes. Especially in preseason. Seriously folks, no need to panic.
Radek Dvorak scored and then refused to celebrate with his teammates. Classy guy. Have fun playing in Florida and not making the playoffs this season.
Kenndal McArdle tried to save face from the Stuart hugging and scored to tie the game.
The Bruins had long bouts of furious attacks but just couldn’t bury the puck. They showed a lot of fire though.
The Shootout:
Patrice Bergeron shootout attempt against Scott Clemmensen: GOAL. Bergeron put on a freaking clinic.
Mike Santorelli shootout attempt against Tuukka Rask: GOAL. Boo.
Ryan Spooner shootout attempt against Scott Clemmensen: SAVED. Allllllllllllmost had it.
Cory Stillman shootout attempt against Tuukka Rask: GOAL. Booooo!
Tyler Seguin shootout attempt against Scott Clemmensen: SAVED. Hey, you’ll get ’em next time kid! |
Boston lost for the second time in as many games to the Panthers as people complained about the offense and the power play. Oh well. If its ten games into the regular season and this kind of stuff is still happening, then we’ll worry.
Notes:
– Seriously, Spooner looked impressive. Plays hard, good speed, has a nose for the net. Could be a darkhorse to make the team.
– Bergeron looked hungry… again. He better have an “A” on his jersey all season long. It was unfair when he was on the ice on the PK against the Panthers. In Berg, We Trust.
– Seguin’s vision on the ice was on full display. Like the Bruins, we’ve tried to reduce the expectations for ourselves, but we’re certainly buying into the hype.
– Jordan Caron saw a good amount of penalty kill time tonight. We’re still impressed with his preseason play.
– Horton nailed former Bruin Bitz! Bitz! It’s a Byron Bitz! Bitz was unhappy. Then he cried and mumbled something about being in hockey hell.
– Marc Savard took the game in from the press box. He was shown on the Jumbotron and the crowd went nuts. Get well soon Marc. Glad you’re still a Bruin.
