Welcome to Purple Jesus Diaries’ 2012 NFL Draft-or-Bust Off where we cover all items related to the 2012 NFL Draft as pertains to the Minnesota Vikings. At this point in the year, we will continue reviewing this crop of draft picks. We’ve already looked at Matt Kalil, Harrison Smith, Josh Robinson, Jarius Wright, Rhett Ellison, and Greg Childs. Now, after the 4th round we just do quick shots on people who will probably make the team but are still, kind of, you know … So here is Blair Walsh, kicker from Georgia …
NAME: His name is BLAIR WALSH. Which totally sounds like a Bama-bangs wearing SEC kid, right? A kicker, even? Amazing. 5’9″ and 187 pounds, too. Why … He’s no bigger than Chris Kluwe! Smaller even! He’s bringing down the intimidation factor of our special teams! What the hell!
NICKNAME: The popular one seems to be the “Blair Walsh Project,” which honestly is pretty good. Blair Hair, Moon Walshin’, Walsh the Throne, etc. What do you got?
GOOD: Again, because I steal from NFL.com:

A kicker who can make a tackle? GTFO. I didn’t even know they could do that. Also, yes, Walsh apparently has a leg like Peyton Manning has an arm, and Shanko has a penis. That’s a good thing!

That’s an understatement. I don’t have the numbers because I’m lazy as shit, but Walsh only hit like 60% of his field goals in his last year at Georgia. That’s … Not very good? But congrats on the big leg!
SO? With Longwell getting “the boot” (hahaha!), Walsh is now the new Vikings kicker, for better or for worse. Although his senior season was weak and he had a low field goal percentage, he did do pretty well as a junior, so you figure something is there. Can he carry it over to the NFL? I don’t know. Remember Alex Henery from Nebraska? He’s arguably the best kicking in the history of college football. He was shaky as Jay Leno’s head converting to the NFL with their skinnier balls (hahaha, again!). So we’ll see. Walsh is going to be given all the opportunity in the world to take the kicker spot, and with his ability to actually put the ball into the endzone on kickoffs, maybe he’ll do good.
Either way. I highly doubt we’ll be in a position to win games by three points this year anyway, so let’s roll!
