Fives things about the game from last night:
- Wow, the Sabres were abysmal during the first period, eh? Maybe the first period is going to be our weak point this season. Thank God Miller was playing well last night. He is the reason we won the game otherwise the score would have been 10-3.
- How did no one pick up Leopold on his goal? I was with one of my friends during the game and she didn’t see him either. Out of NOWHERE. It was an extremely nice play and I think this should be incorporated moreso into the Sabres gameplay. Beautiful shot by Leopold and quick thinking.
- Why oh why did the Habs give Vanek so much space on his goal at the end of the second? Out of everyone that was out on that final shift, three Habs should have been on him. Don’t let him rip that shot. He said in his interview from last night that they had been working on that play a lot. Nice to see it work and have it be the game winner.
- I’m okay with Vanek’s first penalty last night because I think Subban is overrated and I’m glad someone tried to drop him during the game. The last attempt was pretty faily though. The second penalty was bull. Yeah, maybe he pushed Gionta down but holy crap, he went down easily. The refs call that but not a tripping penalty from Subban on Pominville late in the third period. Whatever whatever.
- If Miller plays like this thanks to Enroth playing a lot of games this year then keep this trend going. Keep both goaltenders fresh. It’s going to help in the long run. It worked for the Canucks last year between Luongo and Schneider so why not for us too?
Sabres play the Panthers next on the usual Southeast swing on Thursday. I hope they continue playing well on the road and grab some more points before coming back home.
Go Sabres.
