Period 1: I knew this game was going to be interesting from the start, given that both teams need to win to remain in the playoff hunt. The game started as any Flyers’ game would by taking a quick penalty… thanks to Nick Schultz interfering with Stephen Gionta. The Flyers did a pretty good job of killing that one and even picked up a power play after they were on the penalty kill, but didn’t do anything on it. Sadly, Radko Gudas was done for the night after being ejected as a result of a hit on Bobby Farnham. During the Devils 5 minute power play, the Devils managed to get one by Micahl Neuvirth, but Dave Hakstol used his coach’s challenge believing there was goaltender interference on the play. Hakstol was right and the goal was reversed. It didn’t really matter though as Tyler Kennedy (Ex Pittsburgh Penguin) put one in shortly after the coaching challenge. As soon as you would think this game is going to be a disaster, the Flyers’ savior, Shayne Gostisbehere, continued his point streak(13 games) with a clutch goal assisted by Brayden Schenn and Claude Giroux. The shots were even at 8-8 with the score tied at 1-1 after the first.
