I just wanted to post a real quick recruiting update for the 2011 class before getting back to our regularly scheduled tsun week activities.
First, arguably the top Junior College defensive lineman in the country, Cornelius “Tank” Carradine, is a late entry into the field of potential members of the 2011 class. Carradine was initially a target for Ohio State in 2009, but for various reasons (presumably mostly academic), Carradine chose the Junior College route.
Now, after an outstanding season at Butler Community College in Kansas, Ohio State is one of his top school choices as he looks to move his game to the 1-A level. Apparently, JUCO recruits have to sign by December 15th, so the suspense won’t drag on for much longer in this one.
With the loss of several key members of the defensive line rotation after this season, adding a player like Carradine, who could crack the two deep right away and make an immediate impact, is highly desirable.
The second update is the emergence of Akise Teague on Ohio State’s recruiting radar. Teague is a versatile two-way player at Youngstown Ursuline who could play defense or offense at the next level.
Speculation is that Ohio State will either take Teague or Shane Wynn in the 2011 class, but not both.
Given that a Carradine commitment would likely eliminate Andre Sturdivant’s spot in the 2011 class (ironic that they are both nicknamed “tank”), it doesn’t look like a good week for Glenville players continuing the pipeline to Ohio State (all signs point to Aundrey Walker still making the trip down I-71, however).
Keep those grades up kids, it’s more important than you think.
