Barring a major roster shakeup, the Sacramento Kings will be fielding a pretty stacked team in Las Vegas Summer League next month.
Quincy Acy will play for the Kings in Vegas according to Kings head coach Michael Malone, who broke the news in an appearance on KHTK Radio yesterday morning. Acy will join Ben McLemore, Ray McCallum, Derrick Williams and potentially the No. 8 pick on the team’s summer league roster.
“Summer league is really about player development and opportunity,” Malone said to hosts Keith Brooks and Carmichael Dave. “But you know what? I also want to win. We’re going to have a very talented summer league team and there’s no reason that we shouldn’t be a very competitive team in the Vegas Summer League, which will have over 20 NBA teams represented there.”
Acy played in 56 games for the Kings after arriving in Sacramento as part of the Rudy Gay trade with the Toronto Raptors. Per 36 minutes, the 23-year-old forward averaged 7.0 points and 9.2 rebounds a game.
With roster turnover and injuries plaguing the Kings throughout the season, Acy was thrust into Malone’s rotation during his first three months with the Kings. However, his playing time diminished late in the season as the Kings brought in players like Royce White on 10-day contracts and acquired veteran big man Reggie Evans at the trade deadline in a deal for Marcus Thornton.
The 23-year-old forward has an uncertain future ahead of him in Sacramento. Per ShamSports.com’s salary database, Acy is due to make $915,243 in the deal he signed as the 37th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. However, his contract is not guaranteed and only becomes guaranteed for the 2014-15 season if he’s not waived by July 25.
With Acy on the roster, the Kings will field a team in Las Vegas that has four players who’ve started at least one game in the NBA. There is no word yet on who else the Kings will have on their summer league roster.
