It was Quinton Flowers’ sudden emergence as a legitimate home-run threat at the quarterback position that led to USF’s first eight-win season and bowl appearance since 2010.

With the dual-threat returning under center for his junior year, the Bulls are poised to take the next step in 2016 by competing for an American Athletic Conference title. That’s why Flowers has received some praise this offseason as one of the FBS’ most exciting up-and-comers, and is listed as one of the top 10 quarterbacks on the rise by Today’s U.

“Flowers went from being the No. 3 option on one of the least-efficient passing offenses in the entire FBS during his freshman campaign to the main reason Willie Taggart received a contract extension following a much-improved 2015 season,” the column reads. “The Miami, Fla., native tossed a school-record 22 touchdowns and added 991 yards and 12 scores on the ground, leading an offense that went from scoring 17.2 points per game (t-119th) to 33.6 (41st) in 2015. If Flowers continues to develop, the Bulls could be a favorite to win the American title.”
