Xander Bogaerts shared some honest thoughts he had about learning of the signing of Stephen Drew yesterday, signaling that he will be the starting shortstop for the remainder of 2014:
“My heart is always at shortstop (but) they felt we were a better team with (Drew), so that’s why they went out and got him.”
Xander went on to say about his play in the field in last night’s game which included two errors at shortstop:
“There was a lot going on today. I don’t want to make no excuses, but it definitely was a tough day.”
When the Sox headed to New York earlier this season it was reported why Xander Bogaerts grabbed the number 2 as soon as Jacoby Ellsbury was no longer on the roster. Xander always dreamed of being a shortstop and idealized Derek Jeter. Xander Bogaerts has a long career ahead of him which may or may not be at shortstop and this is just one of the first blips along the road for the young athlete.
