“I hate the fact that Terry Francona leaves and it just seems the trashing of him after is uncalled for. It’s not one of Boston’s strong suits. It seems like when an executive or player or coach leaves, I feel like to try to justify the decision or make themselves feel better, it often ends in a bloody war afterwards. All the guy did was win two World Series and win 95 games four or five times and have a great run. It’s a shame to watch it end this way. It’s just not a thing that makes a fan base look great.”
“Obviously someone had an axe to grind with some of the people there. It happens too often in that city, and it’s a shame, because all [Francona] did is win two World Series. In some ways, whether they want to retain him or not, when he does leave, it should be bouquets instead of axes. … When they kind of decided on a mutual breakup, everyone there loves him as a person. He’s a great guy. To have him get trashed afterwards is really a shame.”
-Jed Hoyer (Padres GM and Former Sox executive) on Francona being trashed in the latest Globe article.
