The Raider Nation Celebration moved from its usual home at the Oakland Coliseum to Frank Ogawa plaza as a means of evolution back towards its traditional role as a community based kickoff pep rally.
Since 2005 the Raiders have held the Raider Nation Celebration as an open practice at the Oakland Coliseum, with the idea of giving the fans a peek inside of a training camp practice session. Following the workout, there was a chance for fans to get autographs from the players.It was an opportunity for the fans to get a chance to see what a real practice looks like, which is something that the Oakland Raider fans rarely get.
According to Raiders CEO Amy Trask, “There was a consensus that it was time to refresh the Raider Nation Celebration.”
This move to Frank Ogawa Plaza in downtown Oakland is intended to take the Raider Nation Celebration back to its roots when it was the Raider Rally. It also aims to further strengthen the relationship between the Raiders organization and the Oakland community. Trask said, “This will be a community event in every sense of the word.”
The Raider Nation Celebration will be at the Frank Ogawa Plaza on Friday, August 27th from 4-6 pm.
