The Raider Nation was in full effect today at Ricky’s Sports Theater and Pub in San Leandro. Both LDizzle and I were on hand to cover the Oakland Raider Booster Club’s annual draft party. The crowd erupted in cheers when the Raiders were on the clock, but those Raider chants rapidly morphed into cries of anguish when it was announced that the pick was Darrius Heyward-Bey. The party was joined by several current Raiders including Trevor Scott, Oren O’Neal, Luke Lawton, Derrick Grey, Louis Rankin, Darrell Strong, and Marcus Johnson.
The Nation had thinned out by the time the Raiders traded down from 40 to 47 in the second round. The stragglers let out a collective “who?” when it came time for Michael Mitchell’s name to be called.
Dizzle and I were able to get some fan interviews, and will be putting up some video from that in the coming days.
