To make room for defensive back Rashad Baker, the Oakland Raiders dropped one of the three fullbacks on their roster. Much to the surprise of everyone it was veteran Lorenzo Neal who was released.
Neal was signed at the beginning of minicamp as an insurance policy against Oren O’Neal’s health and to provide veteran leadership. His realease means that the Raiders must be confident in the O’Neal’s recovery. It also means that Neal must not have had as much left in the tank as expected.
