The Oakland Raiders had a couple of key injuries in Sunday’s debacle against the Houston Texans. Today, Coach Cable addressed the local media and outlined the injury report.
Nick Miller WR: Miller was hurt prior to week one. It was originally believed to be shin splints, but was later revealed to be a broken bone near his ankle. He is still “in the boot, but progress is still being made”
Chaz Schilens WR: Schilens was hurt before week two of the preseason when he broke a bone in his foot during the joint practices with the 49ers. Schilens is back to working out, but his return is considered day-to-day.
Robert Gallery G: Gallery was injured during the week two win over Kansas City. He broke a bone in his leg. Coach Cable would not rule out his return on Sunday against the Giants, but admitted it was a long shot.
New injuries:
Cornell Green T: Green suffered a strain in his calf, and is expected to be out 2-4 weeks.
Darren McFadden RB: McFadden tore a meniscus in his knee. (Cable didn’t say which one.) He is expected to be out 2-4 weeks.
The loss of McFadden makes the inability to sign Louis Rankin to the practice squad more of an issue. This leaves the Raiders with two healthy backs to carry the load. If either Bush or Fargas were to be injured, that would leave the Raiders in dire straits.
Cornell Green has been a marginal starter at best, so his loss means less. This should mean that Paul McQuistan will be at least active on game-day as a reserve. Erik Pears and Khalif Barnes are the two players who may take his spot.
