The Oakland Raiders simply ran over the Denver Broncos. The running game has been the backbone of their offense all year, bur the running game exploded for their most yards since the days of Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson.
The Raiders carried the ball 53 times for 328 yards, with Darren McFadden leading the way with 16 carries for 165 yards proving that he is healthy after suffering a hamstring injury against the Houston Texans. Mcfadden put the exclamation point on his night when he burst off of right tackle, broke a tackle and outran the defense for a 57 yard touchdown scamper.
Michael Bush added 52 yards late in the game as the Raiders were working the clock late. Marcel Reece had seven carries for 39 yards. Wide receiver Jacoby Ford had two carries on end-arounds for an additional 29 yards.
This was the Raiders biggest rushing day since November 30th, 1987 when Bo Jackson had 18 carries for 221 yards including a 91 yard touchdown run. Marcus Allen contributed 18 carries of his own for 76 yards as the Raiders had a total of 356 yards on the ground, as the Raiders won 37-14 over the Seattle Seahawks.
This is a continuation of Darren McFadden’s breakout season. For the three games where he was healthy he was averaging 115 yards per game. He missed half of week four and then the next two games with a sore hamstring. His 12 carries for 47 yards against the Texans dropped his per game average under the century mark to 98. Today’s game pushed him up to 111.4 yards per game.
They have worked their way to third in the league in rushing as a team with an average of 158.4 yards per game. This is a vast improvement over 2009 where they were ranked 21st in the league with an average of 106 yards per game on the ground.
The Raiders are finally getting the two headed rushing attack they were expecting when they drafted Michael Bush and Darren McFadden in back to back seasons.
