The Raiders had a tryout with former Giants free agent DE Dave Tollefson, today. He was once a player on the Raiders practic squad before signing with the Giants active roster in 2007, becoming a member of their formidable defensive line rotation and a sometimes starter when injuries demanded.
If he signs with the Raiders he will fill much the same role – a backup and situational player who can also start. He is also able to contribute on Special Teams.
When reached by Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times by phone, he certainly seemed to be interested in joining the Raiders. He told Corkran, “I’m sure the Raiders don’t want me going to Tennessee. So, I hope something gets worked out beforehand.”
The Tennessee reference is because Tollefson is scheduled to meet with the Titans later this week unless he comes to terms with the Raiders before that happens. That quote is a strong indicator his preference is Oakland, however.
With a quote that strong, if the Raiders have any interest in Tollefson it sounds like he’s willing to make it work to play in Silver and Black, again.
If Tollefson signs with Oakland, Raiders’ GM Reggie McKenzie will be 5 for 5 on free agents that have worked out in Oakland and then signed with the team. The other four are CB Ronald Bartell, CB Shawntae Spencer, G Mike Brisiel and LB Philip Wheeler.
