After being held off the scoreboard for the first 17 innings of the Tallahassee Regional, Florida State nearly completed a improbable comeback on Saturday before falling to Alabama 6-5. The Seminoles trailed 6-0 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, but pushed five runs across before leaving runners on the corners.

John Sansone drove in the first run of the regional for Florida State by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Justin Gonzalez and Ladson Montgomery each recorded RBI walks before D.J. Stewart plated a pair of runs with a single up the middle. With runners on the corners, Alabama closer Thomas Burroughs got pinch-hitter Gage West to fly out to center to end the contest.

Mikey White and Wade Wass each homered for the Crimson Tide in the victory. Luke Weaver took the loss for FSU after surrendering three runs in five innings of the work.

With a 3-0 lead, Alabama got to the Florida State bullpen for three runs which would prove to be huge in the seventh. All three runs were charged to senior Gage Smith, who made his final Florida State appearance in the defeat.

With the loss, the Seminoles are eliminated from the NCAA Tournament and fail to make the Super Regionals for the first time since 2007. FSU finishes the year with a record of 43-17. Alabama will face either Kennesaw State or Georgia Southern in another elimination game on Sunday.
