Former La Salle Explorer guard Ramon Galloway is finally getting his shot to play in the NBA.
On Friday, Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan announced that the team has signed Galloway. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This past summer, Galloway played in the Magic’s backyard at the Orlando Pro Summer League with the Charlotte Hornets. In three games with the Hornets, Galloway averaged 9.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 14.8 minutes per game.
Before playing with the Hornets in the summer league, Galloway was playing basketball overseas with OpenJobMetis Varese and Fulgor Omegna last season.
In 26 games with both teams, Galloway averaged 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 29.1 minutes per game. He also shot 43.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.
The 6-foot-3 guard is most remembered for his career at La Salle, where he helped lead the Explorers to a Sweet 16 berth in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Galloway is an excellent scorer, who can drive to the basket but can also be a factor from beyond the arc.
It is surprising to see the Magic sign Galloway with the preseason wrapping this weekend. However, it does leave the door open for the Magic to assign him to their D-League affiliate, the Erie Bayhawks.
