Rams LT Greg Robinson struggles to play at NFL level

The 7-9 train is in full force as the Rams have been playing penalty riddled football all year. Currently tied second in the league for most penalties behind the Raiders, the Rams have 75 penalties totaling 642 yards lost most of which are composed of Offensive Holding, False Starts and Defensive Pass Interference calls.

Offensive Left Tackle Greg Robinson specifically has been the Rams most prolific offender totaling 11 altogether. Since being drafted second overall in 2014 his problems continue to be an issue for a team that is regularly undisciplined.

The previous year Robinson led the team in penalties with 13 and during his rookie season having only played 12 out of the 16 games he led the team in penalties with 11. How can the Rams continue the hunt for the playoffs with the amount of yardage loss to penalties?

Now Greg Robinson isn’t the only offender but his rap sheet of violations occurs when the offensive linemen is beat by defenders and out of desperation Robinson is forced to hold, grab, turn or tackle resulting in a foul and loss of 10 yards each time. Robinson along with the rest of the offensive line has allowed 23 sacks. Did the Rams waste the 2nd overall draft pick on Robinson? If so what other options do the Rams have?

Jamon Brown whose name is nearly unheard of is a second year pro out of Louisville who started all the Cardinals games as Offensive tackle since 2012. Weighing in at 323lbs and standing 6’4 tall he’s a big athletic player with a lot of potential for the Rams organization. So far this year he’s only started one game in Detroit where the Rams allowed only one sack.

Pace Murphy signed as an undrafted free agent and NorthWestern State Demon made the final roster as a Left Tackle but lacks the footwork needed to impact most defensive linemen. Murphy can attribute his success with good upper body strength but will need a lot of coaching in order to be ready for the NFL.

The Rams shouldn’t be surprised at the amount of penalties but it doesn’t seem like Fisher and company care to do anything about it. Expect big game deciding plays negated due to Robinson and the lack of undisciplined Rams football.
