Rams Player Profile: Will Nelson Spruce Be Ready For Round 2?

John Henson

His named was heard across the Los Angeles Coliseum as the Los Angeles Rams returned home in front of a 90,000 crowd against the Dallas Cowboys. Along side QB Sean Mannion, WR Nelson Spruce led the charge for the ultimate Rams comeback that meant nothing. But hey football was back in Los Angeles!

Throughout the last minutes of the game, fans chanted ” SPRRRUUUCEEE” as they were already on board with the undrafted free agent. He had a touchdown and six receptions against the Dallas Cowboys on August 13.

However, he was never able to touch the field in the 2016 season. He dealt with calf and knee injuries that kept continuing to become setbacks. That setback became a reality as on November 18th he was placed on the injured reserve.

Fans react to Nelson Spruce making the Los Angeles Rams roster

One of the most productive receivers in college football in 2014, Spruce filled the stats sheet with 105 catches for nearly 1,200 yards and 12 scores.

His senior year, however, was not as productive (84-942, three TD) partially due to the team’s offensive limitations.

While Spruce is not considered an explosive downfield threat, he runs solid routes, fights for the ball in the air and is a reliable pass-catcher (he’s the Pac-12’s leader in career receptions) — three important traits for a No. 2 or 3 NFL receiver.

Rams rookie receiver Nelson Spruce has not yet made his NFL debut. Will it happen this season?
