Anthony Ranaudo has been on the winning side of all his starts since being called up by the Sox earlier this season. Ranaudo who grew up in New Jersey and would visit the old Yankee Stadium as a kid would get the opportunity to make his first start there of his professional career at Yankee Stadium. The start would end up not going as he would hoped and he suffered his first loss of the season, more because of the lack of run support than anything else, but a loss none the less.
Ranaudo gave up two runs to the Yankees in the 2nd inning when he gave up a 2 run homerun to Brian McCann. Ranaudo gave up another run in the 5th when Ellsbury hit a sac fly to score Headley from 3rd. Sox 0-3. Kuroda was on the other side for the Yankees and he was putting on a pretty good show. The Sox bats weren’t able to get anything from him until the 6th inning. Holt hit an RBI double to score Weeks and the Sox were on the board. Unfortunately that would be the last time the Sox would crack the scoreboard.
Ranaudo was done after 5.1 innings and Craig Breslow was to finish out the 6th. The Yankees ended up loading the bases against Breslow, but old friend Stephen Drew struck out to not allow anyone to come home. Alex Wilson took the mound in the 7th and found himself some trouble. Wilson gave up an RBI single to Gardner and then an RBI single to McCann. The game already seemed out of reach trailing 1-3, so 1-5 was the nail in the coffin. Mujica pitched a scoreless 8th, but the Red Sox would be an easy W in the win column for the Yankees.
