The last thing the UConn Huskies football team needs right now is any distractions as they prepare for the biggest game in their short FBS history. A win on Saturday over the South Florida Bulls and they’ll represent the Big East in the BCS. A loss and they’ll end up in a bowl that no one will care about.
They’ve battled distractions this season with the suspensions of former quarterback Cody Endres and offensive lineman Erik Kuraczea. Then they had to deal with Kuraczea leaving the team for personal reasons and Endres being kicked off the football team for good. Then to top it off, injured defensive lineman Marcus Campbell was arrested for stealing a backpack that contained a laptop.
So with reports out there that UConn head coach Randy Edsall has talked with the Minnesota Gophers about their head coaching job, he made sure to put the rumors to bed during the Big East coaches teleconference with the media on Monday.
Edsall said during the call that he has not been contacted by anyone.
Whether or not he has is his business but his main job right now should be to prepare his team for the game in Tampa on Saturday night. And that’s it.
Plus to me a move to the Golden Gophers wouldn’t make too much sense.
It’s not like they’re a top program and he’d have to start from the bottom up with a job that isn’t better than UConn’s. Sure it’s the Big Ten but Minnesota hasn’t exactly been a powerhouse in football lately.
We’ve been through this before with Edsall but I, for one, hope he tells his agent to wait until after this Saturday night about any schools that are interested in him. The last thing we need is another distraction.
