Because of Vancouver’s loss Thursday night, the Rangers can win the NHL’s Presidents’ Trophy for best record in the league with a win over the Capitals at MSG tonight. They can also back in with another Vancouver regulation loss to Edmonton.
…just so unfathomable. I really can’t put it into words. Having ability to become the best team in the NHL on the last game of the season? Who would have thunk?
Larry Brooks at the New York Post has this quote from Torts on winning the trophy…
“We want to win that hockey game,” he said. “It’s our last game before we really get going.
“I think there is a little bit of incentive there, so we want to win that hockey game, including me.”
…wow, first time I’ve seen Torts admit that he’d like to win Presidents’ Trophy. Nice to see him let his guard down for a second.
Lundqvist adds…
“I would be really proud to accomplish that,” he said. You want to win every game, but [tonight] we have a chance to do something special.”
