Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that the Rangers are one of four teams that have made inquiries to the Anaheim Ducks about Teemu Selanne’s availability at the trade deadline.
Selanne, who has a one-year contract that pays him $4 million, has 15g, 29a this season.
…Selanne’s not a guy I’ve ever considered, but he does make a lot of sense. He’s obviously shown he can still score, while the Rangers could probably get him on the cheap (unless there’s a bidding war) as the Ducks will be begging teams to help them dump salary come deadline time. I’d have no problems giving up some picks and a mid-level prospect (McColgan?) for Selanne.
Garrioch adds that if the Rangers don’t get Selanne, still expect them to to make a move for a high-end forward and mentions Alex Hemsky.
…i’ve heard Hemsky to the Rangers since I started this blog four years ago. Didn’t happened then, don’t expect it now.
