Steve Zipay at Newsday reports that the Rangers have shown interest in defensemen Shane O’Brien of Colorado and Chri Campoli of the Canadiens.
O’Brien, who played for John Tortorella in Tampa, has 2g, 12a this season while piling up 103 hits and 55 blocked shots. He is in the final year of his contract that pays him $1.1 million this season.
The former Islander Campoli, who missed the first two months of the season with a hamstring injury, has 2g, 4a in 23 games. He signed a one-year deal with Montreal for $1.75 million this past off-season.
…as a tough defenseman, O’Brien would fit nicely into Tortorella’s system although I’m not sure if there will be any room for him, especially if Sauer comes back this season. Would come cheap though.
…not sure what the draw is to Campoli. After a solid rookie season with the Islanders that saw him score nine goals, he’s only scored more than five once and I wouldn’t say he’s the greatest defender. Pass.
