Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com reports that despite the Rangers having just the 14th best power play they have no interest in UFA D Marc-Andre Bergeron who got the final clearance from doctors Thursday and can resume his NHL career after recovering from offseason knee surgery.
LeBrun adds that Bergeron, 30, can help a power play, as he did last season when he had 13 goals and 21 assists in 60 games with the Montreal Canadiens. He also had 14 goals and 18 assists in 72 games the season before in Minnesota.
…probably a smart move by the Rangers staying away from a 30-year-old defenseman coming off major knee surgery. Although, the guy can score on the power play. If this was pre-lockout, Sather would have already given him a six-year, $30 million contract.
