Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that the Rangers are not likely to trade for Lightning defenseman Pavel Kubina.
Yesterday, Scott Burnside at ESPN said Kubina’s connection to John Tortorella from his time in Tampa Bay suggested some interest from the Rangers.
The Lightning have asked Kubina to waive his no-trade clause and to submit a list of teams to which he would accept a trade.
To protect their own interests, Tampa has decided to shut down Kubina until the situation is resolved.
Kubina, who is in the final year of his contract, is making $3.5 million this season and has 3g, 8a this year.
…good to hear. There’s absolutely no reason the Rangers should be giving up prospects and/or picks in an attempt to improve a position that doesn’t need improving.
