I took a plane to Seattle.
I took a plane back from Seattle.
I watched some stuff. And now we should rank that stuff. Please be warned, I don’t see many movies.
1) Kingsman: The Secret Service
This movie was WAYYYY better than I expected. Like 10X better. Clever, funny and features some really creative fight scenes. Probably what Bond films would look like if they didn’t take themselves so seriously.
Two small beefs: Why does Samuel L. Jackson need to talk with a lisp? And – not to spoil anything – but that’s not how Kentucky is, people. Promise.
Rent this – even pay for it – if you’re looking to be entertained.
2) The DUFF
Pretty standard high school movie… but Mae Whitman (Bianca Piper) is going to have a nice little career ahead of her. She straps this movie on her back and makes all the normal tropes (prom dates, how to kiss properly, can’t talk to boys et al) and makes them unique.
Watch this on Netflix this fall and wonder why you waited so long.
3) US Open

Granted, I was already off the plane when this drama happened and I’m basing this ranking off watching earlier in the day.
Shout out to Southwest for the free TV, though. Very thoughtful. We all appreciate it.
4) Focus
Will Smith is judged on a sliding scale. Dude is one the few bankable leading men in Hollywood and has showed us he can be great. He’s OK in this, but a spark or something is missing. He’s more than serviceable as a confidence man – and you’ll like him in this. You won’t loooove him in this.
Margot Robbie (the lady from Wolf of Wall Street) shows that she’s more than a pretty face and turns in a solid performance as Smith’s protege.
If you like caper movies, you should be good here.. Also, Robbie gets naked the exact opposite number of times as she did in WOWS, in case you were wondering. Get your mind out of the gutter.
Wait for HBO or Showtime.
And just because it was mentioned, there still hasn’t been a movie trailer as good as WOWS. Reigning champ.
