Raul Mondesi never played in a World Series game. His son, Raul Jr., might just get his chance this week.
But here’s the interesting part…Junior has yet to play in the Majors. Matter of fact, the 20-year-old infielder has yet to advance higher than Double-A. Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals announced that Mondesi Jr. would replace Terrance Gore, who, incidentally, did not register an at bat in either the ALDS or ALCS.
So how is this possible? Seriously…how is it possible for a guy to make his Major League debut in the World Series?
Apparently, the rules allow teams to add players that were in their organization prior to August 31. Makes sense. But a Double-A player? Yeah…also not a problem. Turns out, all that would need to happen is for a team to clear a spot on their 40-man roster.
Suffice it to say, should Mondesi Jr. make his debut against the New York Mets…it would be a first.
