Behind 25 points from The Captain, who was 10 of 15, and 3 of 3 from downtown, the C’s gets a nice win in Milwaukee tonight, 101-91. It was “vintage Paul Pierce”, as Tommy Heinsohn noted postgame. Paul’s 25 points came on array of drives, mid-range jumpers and treys. Interesting stat; Pierce passed Lebron James tonight as the active player with the most career points (986) vs the Bucks. Kevin Garnett also continued his great play of late; the Big Ticket had 16 points, 10 boards and 3 blocks in 31 minutes. Brandon Bass also had a double-double, chiming-in with 12 and 10.
Greg Stiemsma, a Wisconsin native, had a nice game to the delight of lots of family and friends in attendance tonight. The Stiem Cleaner’s line: 6 points, 4 steals, 5 blocked-shots, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. This looked like it could be another night-off for the C’s defense as they gave-up 58 points in the 1st-half. But the C’s locked-down the paint and the Bucks in the 2nd-half to hold them to 40% from the field for the game. The bench, behind Avery Bradley’s absolutely ferocius efforts, was especially impressive on defense. Mickael Pietrus led the offense for the 2nd unit with 13 points.
Rajon Rondo had yet another solid game. He was impressive on both ends of the floor and tallied 14 assists, 10 points and 3 steals. But Stiemsma and the Boston reserves’ 31 points were the real story tonight. Stiemsma spent 24 minutes on the floor tonight, which enabled KG to get a little extra rest for Boston’s battle with Philly tomorrow night. The C’s and Sixers battle for 1st place in the Atlantic tomorrow, and you better believe Boston did not forget about their ass-whooping by Philly on March 7th and will be ready…
