Breaking news: Brad Stevens has been swearing at an alarming rate. First, there was this “tirade” against the refs in Orlando, then, tonight Brad laid into Boston after a sub par first half. Who knows, maybe the Orlando Magic just bring out the worst in Stevens. From ESPN Boston’s Chris Forsberg:
Boston Celtics swingman Evan Turner said the way an angry Brad Stevens stomped into the locker room at halftime of Friday’s game caused him to jump. The Celtics had just endured a head-shaking end to a dreadful first half in a game they absolutely could not afford to lose in their quest for a postseason berth and Stevens let his team know their play was unacceptable.
“I never heard Brad really curse, and he cursed us out pretty good,” said Turner. “I don’t know who came in our locker room, but he came in and started screaming. I jumped. We needed to get it under wraps.
“I knew he was pretty upset. I heard we have no food on the plane [to Indianapolis for Saturday’s game], so I’m pretty sure at halftime he called for no food. Hopefully we don’t have to get him that mad again.”
Fantastic. This is the kind of thing I love to read, since Stevens has taken some heat from fans for being too nice-for lack of a better word. Well whatever four-letter words Stevens broke out, they worked. The C’s came back from 11 down to notch a 95-88 win over Orlando at the Garden on Friday night. Boston is now one game behind the Hornets for the final playoff spot in the East.
The Celtics are headed to Indy now, probably hungry, where they face the Pacers tomorrow night at 7pm EST.
The Green:
- Evan Turner lead all scorers with 30 points, 16 of them in the 4th where he was a perfect 6 of 6 from the field.
- Kelly Olynyk had yet another good game, giving C’s fans hope that he may finally have shaken out the cobwebs acquired during his ankle injury. KO put in 13 points and had 5 rebounds in 19 minutes.
- Phil Pressey was solid in the backup point guard role, scoring 10 points and dishing out 10 assists to go with 4 rebounds & 2 steals. Nice night for the kid.
The Gross:
- Sloppy first half for Boston-they turned the ball over 10 times which led to 16 Orlando points.
- Rough night for Avery Bradley. AB shot 4 of 16 (2 of 7 from three) from the field and had 4 turnovers & 4 fouls.
