Ferocious isn’t an adjective often associated with Kelly Olynk. But the quiet Canadian played that way tonight, scoring a team high 20 points (7-10 FG, 9 reb) including two buckets late that sealed the Celtics 102-89 victory over Charlotte.
The highlight of the night came in the 3rd quarter when Olynyk channeled his inner Kevin Garnett and threw down a one-handed put back dunk, and posed. You won’t believe it until you see it.
The Celtics finished the 1st quarter up 8 thanks to 62% shooting and deft passing (7 assists on 10 baskets). The 2nd quarter was a massive pile of horse-bleep. The C’s went ice cold (5-19 FG) which included a 7+ minute stretch without a field goal. Fortunately, Charlotte was just one bucket better and Boston led by 7 at the half.
Olynyk scored 9 of his 20 in the 3rd quarter as Boston stretched the lead to 20 points on a few occasions. The Hornets made a run late in the 4th, closing the gap to as little as 6 points but Boston would not be denied.
Green:
Jae Crowder (19 points, 8-16 FG, 12 reb) and Avery Bradley (18 points, 7-14 FG) both had strong games. David Lee chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds off the bench.
Gross:
Isaiah Thomas and Jared Sullinger combined for 7-22 FG.
Turner went scoreless in 22 minutes. He went 0-2 from deep and is now shooting 15% (6-40) from 3 on the season.
