Recap of MLB Offseason Moves: 11/1 – 11/16 (National League)

KG2

Here is the second part of my profile on the MLB offseason. Here are the National League moves thus  far:

NL East

New York Mets:

  1. The Mets signed OF/1B Michael Cuddyer to a two-year, $21 million deal on Nov. 10. The move gives the Mets a much-needed bat for the middle of their order. However, since the Rockies extended a qualifying offer, they get draft pick compensation in return, which is a nice consolation for the Rockies.

Washington Nationals:

  1. The Nationals avoided arbitration with INF Kevin Frandsen and agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract. Frandsen was a versatile bench player for this team and will bring back that same aid to the Nationals for next year.

NL Central

Pittsburgh Pirates:

  1. The Pirates signed RHP AJ Burnett to a 1 year, $8.5 million deal on Nov. 14. The move brings Burnett back to Pittsburgh where he had success during the 2012-13 season. Burnett turned down more money from the Phillies (who he played with last year) to play where he wanted to. This also gives Pittsburgh security in case Francisco Liriano or Edinson Volquez leaves in free agency.

Chicago Cubs:

  1. The Chicago Cubs acquired INF Tommy La Stella from the Atlanta Braves for RP Arodys Vizcaino. The move gives some depth for the Cubs who really liked the way he hit. This also brings Vizcaino back to Atlanta where he began his young career.

NL West

San Diego Padres:

1. The Padres posted the high bid for Korean pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim. The bid of just $2 million allows them the right to negotiate a contract with one of Korea’s best pitcher.
