Behind a big 4th quarter from Marcus Smart, the Celts beat the Orlando Magic 76-67 this evening. This was easily Smart’s best performance yet, and the rookie played very well at times on both sides of the ball. He was a complete pest & instigator on defense, and despite some early offensive struggles, he stayed confident & buried big shots when needed.
Smart finished with 19 points, 5 assists & 3 rebounds. He got himself to the free throw line quite a bit, connecting on 7 of 8 from the stripe. With Kelly Olynyk getting the day off, it was Smart’s time to shine, and for the most part he did.
With 5:40 left in the game and the Celts clinging to a 56-54 lead, Smart checked in. He proceeded to score 12 of Boston’s final 20 points. He went 4 of 4 from the line over that span and knocked down 2 treys. Not too shabby.
Chris Johnson & pleasant Summer League surprise Mike Mosner both put in 12 points, and Colton Iverson had 10. Phil Pressey really struggled today-he shot a dismal 1 of 15 from the field, including 0 of 6 from downtown.
C’s wrap-up Summer League tomorrow. The time of their final game has not been announced yet.
