Recapping The Flyers Last Second Loss Using Tweets

1996ASG

So last night’s game was uhhhhhhh heartbreaking to say the least. To be honest I was @college during the game and didn’t see any of it. But being the good student that I am I spent the whole class on twitter getting valuable information about the game through gifs, whatever the beats were tweeting, AND YOU THE FANS!!! So instead of a boring ol’ usual recap I’ll recap the game how I saw it.

So to start everyone was probably nervous since Sam here likes to be depressing and state actually facts. I still had hope on the Flyers and threw the past out the window. And while I’m sitting in class I saw another golden Sam tweet and thought “nice, we must be playing good hockey!” Let’s have a look at what happened next.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js  WOW the Flyers are really on fire huh? Matt Read scores with a great fed from Medvedev. I waited anxiously for the inevitable gif.

It appears here this was one of the last few glimpses of good hockey the Flyers would get all night and the point where Toronto would take control of the game.

But honestly I didn’t know that yet. I went back to, ya know, paying attention to class.

After a few minutes went by I eagerly checked my phone.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsAnd all the glorious twitter feed that came with it.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsI still was in a positive mood about the game. I mean, we usually give a few stupid crap goals here and there right? But what concerned me was seeing the shot total slowing become even. had the Flyers stopped hit the gas pedal? Still when the first period ended the Flyers led in shots by 13-11 with the game tied at 1. “Alright let’s reset!” I thought to myself. When the second period started so did more wonderful tweets. The Flyers apparently were playing like “garbage” as several people pointed out. The Flyers were unable to generate anything and eventually it led to a Leafs goal by Peter Holland, but as the video replayed showed Toronto was offsides therefore nullifying the goal. Even after this the Flyers would still continue to be outplayed which would eventually shoot them in the foot and later in the period Toronto was able to capitalized on a delayed Philadelphia penalty as Joffrey Lupul would scoop up a loose rebound and give his team the lead. This is where I saw all the despair and slowly lost hope myself.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsCan’t argue with that. The third period would be pretty much the same thing and it seemed as though the Flyers would just casually let Toronto waltz away with a win. But then it happened. The thing happened. The only thing that could truly bring life to this city. The thing that gives the power of hope and faith back to the Flyers on this night.

welp…………

Thank God for Stephanie. Gostisbehere is truly something special and this place really shows his value to the team. The whole play was him from start to finish. He reads a pass and knocks it down with his stick, brings it all the way up through the neutral zone, keeps acting as if he might pass, and then beat James Reimer five hole.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsAfter that I was just getting off the train so I raced home hoping to catch what I thought would be an inevitable overtime. But because Flyers,

Annnnnnnd that was that. The game ended and the city of Philadelphia handled it quite well…

I particularly love the Steve Mason tweet because when your defense ices the puck and leaves you out to dry the normal Philadelphian way to respond to that would be to blame the goalie.

Standout star: Ghost because who else really deserves it? Maybe Medvedev…….he did save a goal earlier AND assisted Read’s goal, not that it realllly matters but it did then. Co-stars it is.

Special Teams: Powerplay went 1 for 4 with the Matt Read tally and the penalty kill actually went 4 for 4. Toronto’s goal on the delayed called doesn’t count as a PPG.

Sidenote: School sucks and so did that game.
