Recruiting: 2013 QB Caleb Scepaniak

One athlete that has exploded onto the recruiting scene over the past few months is 2013 Seton Catholic Central (Binghampton, NY) QB Caleb Scepaniak.  NLD recently caught up with him to talk about how the process has been going.

“It’s been crazy,” he said, referring to all the attention he’s been getting. “I’ve [been hearing from] almost every Big Ten school, almost every Big East school, some ACC schools and all of the MAC schools,” he said.

It’s not just the schools’ attention that his on-field performances have been garnering.  “[I just got back from] the US Army All-American Combine in Texas,” he said.  “It was good, I got to see a lot of players. There were 500 hundred of us, and a lot of the guys there were the best football players I have seen in my life.”  Scepaniak went on to say “I did well. I got lots of compliments from the coaches and parents and other players.”

It should not be a surprise that he did well, however.  In just six games last year Scepaniak threw for about 1,200 yards. He also missed one game with a concussion, and his team missed a few games due to the New York floods early last fall.

So what does this highly touted quarterback think about Penn State?  “I think he was a good guy to bring in,” Scepaniak said about new Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien. “I hope he stays with the current offense they run, and doesn’t change it to a spread. I like their current offense. I hope they stay in the pro-style,” he continued.  He also added that he has talked to his recruiting coordinator, graduate assistant Bill Kavanaugh, and said that he believes Kavanaugh may stay on staff with O’Brien.
