D.J. Foster is a four-star Captain Crunch on the football field. Watch his highlight film and you’ll see him separate receivers from the ball with sudden impact and magnum force. A 6-0. 185-lb. muti-dimensional athlete from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, Foster averaged over 11 yards a carry as a running back while picking off seven passes as a DB. Scout.com calls him “a big-play threat and a lockdown corner.” The video clearly shows him also to be a devastating tackler, extremely instinctive and smart:

Richard Obert of The Arizona Republic reports that Foster has been offered by National Champion Auburn as a running back, although he is such a gifted athlete that he’ll play quarterback for his high school team this fall. Foster now has offers from Oregon, USC, Michigan, UCLA, and both the Arizona schools, over 30 schools in all. The Saguaro senior rushed for 1,421 yards and 22 touchdowns last season, playing slotback in a spread offense. All-state as a defensive back, he recorded 60 tackles on a team that went 12-2 and won a state championship.
The Ducks want Foster as a receiver. They’ve have had pretty good luck with versatile athletes in the slotback role, notably Josh Huff, and also with a hard-hitting, tough-minded defensive-back-turned-receiver, a fellow by the name of Jeff Maehl. The recruiting services tab him as a four-star prospect, but Foster’s family hasn’t chosen to expose him to a lot of the combines and camps thus far. His play speaks loudly enough.
One thing that jumps out about him is his tremendous versatility; in the 4A State Championship game against 13-0 Canyon del Oro, for example, he carried the ball 12 times for 124 yards and one td, caught 4 passes for 46 yards, and made five tackles in a 41-34 victory. The previous week in the semi-final against Queen Creek he ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries. Foster also played sixth man for the Saguaro Wildcats’ basketball team, which lost the state championship final to Nogales. Rivals.com rates him 74th on its Top 100.
