Recruiting: On the Road Again

Happy Tuesday Cougs!!!

From now on, I will be posting the latest nuggets on recruiting on Tuesdays! You can now catch LucasCoug’s weekly ramblings on Thursday!

Now, after a tough weekend in San Diego the players will have the weekend off to rest up and get ready for a 9-week stretch of Pac-12 opponents.  Our coaches however, will not have the same luxury as they will head off on the road for a critical weekend of recruiting.

This is coaches’ last time to hit the road before the end of the season (unless we make a bowl game), and this time is critical for locking in official visits for the rest of the season.  To see a breakdown of how this class will fill out, as well as a list of known offers, make sure you check out last week’s post.

Cougar Commits Tearing It Up

Through the first 3-4 weeks of the high school season, it looks like a few of the current commits are enjoying huge senior seasons.  One of those is David Bucannon, who is averaging 12 tackles a game and returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown in a week one win over Christian Brothers High School (CA).  I also found this article about him, which touches quite a bit on his recruitment.

Another Cougar commit that is putting up huge senior numbers is QB Austin Apodaca from Silver Creek High School in Colorado.  Through the first 3 games of the season, he’s thrown for 827 yards, 10 touchdowns to 3 interceptions, and completed just a shade under 70% of his passes.  He’s also rushed for 50 yards and two scores.

I’ll have more updates on the senior seasons of our current commits as the season wears on!

Prospects Setting Up Visits

According to Rivals.com, a new player has hit the Cougar radar.  Johnny Stuart, a DE/TE prospect from Westlake Village, CA is looking to set up a November visit to Pullman.  However, competition for him looks to be stiff as Arizona, Arizona State, and Colorado have all offered Stuart.  We’ll let you know if we hear anything as to when he might be on campus.

Another current recruit who is looking to setup a visit is Hamilton High School (AZ) standout defensive lineman Jaxon Hood.  Jaxon holds offers from WSU, Air Force, and…ahem…San Diego State.  However, he recently named WSU, UW, and Michigan State as his top three.  He’s a little undersized, but is a disruptive force at the line of scrimmage.  Check out some of his highlights here.

That’s all for now Coug fans!!! Remember, you can catch LucasCoug on Thursdays now!
