Red Beats White Again Behind Pedey’s Hit!

So, who won today?  The Sox.  Yep, that’s my constant, dorky joke that I love to say when the Red Sox are playing the White Sox.  Today, the Red Sox won.  Andrew Miller took the mound and while he was not great, he was not horrible either.  Miller got an early 2-0 lead with a Varitek HR, however he pitched himself into trouble in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings and gave the lead back to the White Sox.  However, after that Miller seemed to really settle down and he was able to stay on the mound until he had 2 outs in the 6th inning.  He couldn’t get the win, but he kept us in the game and gave us a chance to win.  Could have been a lot better, but it also could have been a lot worse.  Miller’s line for the night was 106 pitches, 5.2 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 8 Ks.  Yep…10 hits is not good, but only one walk and 8 strike outs is something to build upon.  That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

Aceves came out in the end of the 6th and once again was the Red Sox luck charm.  He takes the mound and the Red Sox bats give him the lead.  In the 7th inning, Jesse Crain took the mound for the White Sox and the Red Sox went to work.  Tek lined out to start the inning, but then both Scutaro and Ellsbury got singles.  Both runners moved up on a passed ball.   Pedey came to the plate and hit a 2 RBI single to give the Red Sox the lead.

Bard came into the game in the end of the 7th inning and pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.  His scoreless streak is now sitting pretty at 26.1 innings.  In the top of the 9th inning, the Red Sox got an insurance run with a Gonzalez RBI double to score Ellsbury.  Papelbon struck out the side and got his 24th save of the season.

Alfredo Aceves win record this season is 7-1 and his career win record is 21-2.  Not too shabby, eh?  And..the Red Sox have won 20 games in July.  That’s a franchise record for the month.  Also, not too shabby.
