The Red Sox nabbed RHP Mike Burns from the Reds for RHP Tim Bausher.
Burns, 28, has an 8.78 ERA in 13.1 innings for the Reds and a 1.77 ERA in 56.0 IP for their AAA club. He will not cost a 40-man spot as he was outrighted to Louisville three days ago.
Bausher, 27, had a 4.91 ERA in AAA for Pawtucket, so this does represent an upgrade.
I expect to see Burns in the majors in September. A strong showing could go a long way towards retaining him, but considering NL hitters hit .469 off Burns in the majors earlier this year, the prospects of him doing well are … let’s say … not so probable.
