Red Sox Bats Fail to Overcome Beckett's Bad Start

Josh Beckett gave up a lead-off homer to Ichiro and the next three batters all had hits before he was able to get the first out.  Casper Wells then homered and when the dust settled the Red Sox were down 5-0 after one inning.

The Red Sox bats were quiet until the fourth when Jacoby walked and Crawford singled setting up a first and third situation with nobody out.  Gonzo then grounded out but pushed Crawford over to second.  With one out and two runners in scoring position Dustin Pedroia hit a shallow fly ball to center and Ellsbury tagged up at third.  Ichiro threw a seed to home but the umpire called him safe.  The umpires then got together and overturned the call to end the inning.  Terry Francona came out to argue the changed call and got ejected.

The Sox bats came alive again in the sixth with a lead-off triple by Scutaro followed by a homer from Ells.  Gonzo singled and Pedey also homered in the inning to get the team back within one but that was as close as they would get.  The overturned call ended up being the deciding facor in the game.
