The Sox hit their way to beating the Rays yesterday. Clay Buchholz took the mound for the Sox and for a while it looked like another dreadful outing. Clay gave up an RBI hit and a 3 run HR to Luke Scott to allow 4 runs in the first inning. Buch gave up another RBI double to Luke Scott. Luke Scott?? Really??? However after the first few innings, he settled on down and pitched 7 innings. Buch’s line was 7 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 BBs, 5 Ks. I was impressed with the poor first few innings Buch settled down nicely.
The offense clearly had Buch’s back. Salty hit a 2 run HR in the 2nd. Pedey hit a solo HR in the 3rd. Papi hit his first HR of the year in the 5th. Aviles hit a HR in the 7th. Cody Ross hit an RBI double in the 7th, followed by Papi with an RBI double in the 8th. Ross also hit his 1st HR of the season in the 8th. The offense was clicking and the Rays bullpen was not. It wa a great game to be at!
