The Red Sox designated reliever Lincoln Holdzkom for assignment (5.24 ERA at Pawtucket) in order to claim Marcus McBeth from Cincinnati. McBeth has had a subpar year for the Triple-A club of Cincy, a 6.20 ERA due to giving up a ton of walks and homers. However, in his minor league career, the 27-year old has a 3.47 ERA. Low-cost, low-risk move who could give the Sox a few decent innings in the coming years. In 2007, he had a 5.95 ERA in 19.2 innings for the Reds, 7 walks, 17 strikeouts.
