Looks like the Red Sox are in the hunt to chase down another Japanese pitcher.
22-year old Tazawa Junichi has declared that he will sign with a MLB club next year, foregoing the amateur draft in Japan.
Tazawa throws a low 90’s fastball, a 12-6 curve and a “shuuto,” which can be described best as a slider. Teams interested are the Braves, Tigers, Pirates, Mets, Yankees and of course, the Red Sox.
Upon signing, Junichi will almost certainly see minor league time before debuting in the major leagues, although the time spent in the minors should be a contributing factor to which team he signs with.
