The winning streak is at one game after the Red Sox beat the Yankees today at the Fens. Credit the offense for this victory, perhaps they were inspired by Yaz throwing out the first pitch. Sox batters had 12 hits in the game and exploded for 9 runs. Pedey led the way with 3 hits, 3 RBIs and a homer. Gonzalez, Drew, Ortiz and Salty also had a multi-hit day.
John Lackey got the W but did not pitch well. He gave up two runs in the first and an additional run each inning through the 6th. With a lead going into the 7th Tito went with the much planned Jenks, Bard, Pap combo in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. It worked as everyone had thought it would and the Red Sox won their first game of the season. Papelbon picked up his first save.
