So after the long wait to figure out the compensation for Theo Epstein the Red Sox got relief pitcher Chris Carpenter from the Cubs. Well, it turns out Carpenter is now going to need surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow. Carpenter pitched a grand total of 1.2 innings for the Red Sox since coming over from Chicago. He gave up 4 earned runs and walked five batters in his 1.2 innings of work. This was not exactly the type of compensation most Red Sox fans had in mind when Henry & Co let Theo leave early for Wrigleyville.
