Red Sox HIT Their Way Over 500!

Clay Buchholz didn’t have his best game, however he got enough run support to have the Sox still go back one game over 500 by beating the Marlins.  Let’s hope it stays that way and only gets better from here.  The Sox won with a barrage of 3 HRs.

Clay Buchholz said he didn’t want to pitch on Sunday because he wanted the extra rest.  It doesn’t look like it did him any good.   Buchholz was coming off three tremendous outings and tonight he just didn’t have his best stuff.  Well, he didn’t have his best stuff against Logan Morrison.  All 5 runs that Clay gave up were RBI hits from LoMo.  Buchholz started the game up by giving up a 2 run HR to Logan Morrison in the 1st inning.  In the 3rd, LoMo hit an RBI double to plate Hanley Ramirez.  Then in the 5th inning, you guessed it LoMo hit another RBI double to score both Ramirez and Stanton to tie the game at the time.  So, Buchholz basically did well against anyone as long as their name was not Logan Morrison.

Luckily for Clay, he had the bats behind him and they hit a multiple HR game.  In the bottom of the 1st inning, David Ortiz hit a 2 run HR to tie the game.  That was Papi’s 17th HR of the season.  In the 2nd, Kelly Shoppach went yard for a 2 run HR as well.  Sox 4-2.  In the 4th, in his first game back since being off the DL Cody Ross hit a solo HR to put the Sox up 5-3 at the time.  It must feel nice for Ross to hit a HR against his former club.  In the 5th, Gonzo hit an RBI sac fly way out to deep center field.  Sox 6-5.  I’ll take it.  In the 6th, the Sox scored their final run with back to back doubles from Youk and Middlebrooks.  Sox 7-5.

Clay pitched 6 innings and had a line of 87 pitches, 9 hits, 5 R, 1 BB, 3 Ks.  It wasn’t his best outing, but it was good enough to win. Buchholz was out and Matt Albers was in for the 7th.  Poor Matty has had some horrible defense behind him in the last couple of games.  Albers got what looked like a fly out to CF for the first out, however Ryan Kalish botched the play and suddenly Jose Reyes is on 3rd with no outs.  However, Matt Albers hunkered down and got Ramirez to strike out and then got Stanton to fly out to LF and Daniel Nava made a great throw into home to keep Reyes at 3rd.  Nice job Matty Albers!  Bobby V went out to get him and Andrew Miller was in the game to get the final out of the 7th.  Miller did just that.  Miller got LoMo to fly out to CF and this time Kalish made the play.  Phew.

In the 8th, Padilla was on the mound and gave up a single to Infante, but other than that he had no issues.  In the 9th, Alfredo Aceves was on the mound hoping to get his 17th save of the season.  Aceves had himself a nice 1-2-3 inning, striking out two batters in order to notch the Red Sox win!

The Red Sox win and are finally over 500 again!!
